To: Graduating Class of 2020

From: Dr. Seema C. Shah-Fairbank on behalf of the Civil Engineering Department

Subject: Civil Engineering Department Senior Celebration

Congratulations Graduating Seniors,

Today, marks a major milestone as you complete your Senior Projects presentation at Senior Symposium. The Department Faculty would like to honor and celebrate all your achievements through the 2nd Annual Civil Engineering Department Senior Celebration. Due to the circumstances, we will be hosting a virtual ceremony. We understand that this isn't ideal, but we still believe that you all deserve to be recognized for your hard work and dedication throughout these past years.

This event is open to both undergraduate and graduate students of the Class of 2020 and will take place on Thursday, May 21st from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM via Zoom. Further details regarding this event will be provided as the event date approaches.

As part of the event, we will be having a slideshow highlighting each senior who would like to participate. Please fill out this Google Form for us to share your accomplishments as a student at CPP and your future plans. In addition, please register for the event through Eventbrite and provide the Eventbrite link to your friends and family so that we can get a headcount for the event.

Congratulations, Class of 2020! We look forward to seeing you all at the event!

CE/CEM GRADUATION AND ORDER OF THE ENGINEER (OTE)

Date: March 19, 2020

To: Civil Engineering and Construction Department Students and Faculty

From: Cal Poly Pomona American Society of Civil Engineers (CPP ASCE)

Subject: Notice of Cancellation - Department Graduation and Order of the Engineer (OTE)

Dear Students and Faculty,

CPP ASCE is committed to protecting the health and safety of our members and event participants. In response to the developing situation of the coronavirus (COVID-19), we have closely monitored the  situation with the University, the CSU, and Society-Level ASCE along with state and federal officials. Under the current direction and instruction from both campus administration at Cal Poly Pomona and the CSU, there are several immediate actions we must take for our spring semester events.

It is with deep regret that we must cancel both our Civil Engineering/Construction Department Graduation and Order of the Engineer (OTE). This comes from the University and CSU mandate to cancel all events and gatherings on or off campus with more than 50 participants through May 31, 2020.

We understand that these decisions impact our students in many ways, and want to especially acknowledge our graduating seniors, who along with their family members and friends will be greatly disappointed by this decision.

We recognize the many hours, hard work, and devotion that have gone into your projects, and we are committed to finding ways to recognize and showcase your achievements in the months ahead. You are very important to the mission and value of our department, its students and this campus.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work collectively to keep our campus and our community safe and healthy. If there are any questions regarding upcoming events, please feel free to contact us at calpolypomonaasce@gmail.com.

Best Regards,

Seema C. Shah-Fairbank, P.E., Ph.D.
